Sister Hunny Bunches of Oaths
Hunny was born and raised in San Jose, California where she first saw the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in San Francisco in 2007. When she saw the gorgeous people in fantastic costumes doing good work and spreading Joy across the city, she knew what she wanted to do with her life: be loud, be proud, and be herself. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 2011, she thought she would never see the Sisters ever again. A meeting of fate occurred, however, during the Trump Inaugural protest when she met the City of Fountains Sisters and knew this was her chance. She became a Postulant Sister in May of 2017 and a Novice Sister in December 2017. Most of her work surrounds LGBTQAI+ youth, Suicide Prevention, transgender rights, LGBTQAI+ people of color issues, and LGBTQAI+ health awareness.

Sister Lemonade Phoenix
I chose Lemonade Phoenix as my name because I am always having to make Lemonade from this sour life and refuse to let its fire destroy me. You can’t make Lemonade though from lemons alone, you gotta be the sweetness that transforms it. And that’s me, sweet and tart and full of fire!
Lemonade Phoenix is a local visual artist in KC: painter, cake decorator, costume maker, performance artist. She keeps her hands busy to keep her mind still. She first heard of the Sisters through her friend Sister Hunny Bunches of Oaths. So inspired by Hunny’s stories of the Sisters’ community activism and theatrical creativity, she had to check them out for herself.
“From my first meet and greet to every experience I have had after with the Sisters, I have never met a community of individuals so loving and accepting. I want to be that love to the world, I want to give that gift to everyone. It truly feels like a divine calling, promulgating universal joy and expiating stigmatic guilt, fighting tirelessly and courageously for equality through our many forms of creative expression and activism.”
Sister Sonata Topp
Sonata Topp. Sonata Bottom. Sonata ‘fraid of no ghosts.
Sonata’s life has taken her across the nation, born on the west coast, teen years in the midwest, majority of adult life on the east coast. She has seen and met all kinds of people. During her travels there has always been something missing from her life, but it wasn’t until she saw the Orlando Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence that she knew what it was…She was missing glitter and glamour, community and belonging.
As with anyone she went through a dark time in her life, and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were a blazing beacon in the darkness. From then on she knew that she wanted to be that beacon of hope for those trapped in the darkness. So she took up the habit and met some of the most amazing people she could have ever hoped to meet. They taught her how to paint and how to not take yourself so seriously that you forget one of life’s greatest gifts…FUN. She began to spread her fully professed wings in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and learned how to cater to the community both in person and virtually to bring a sense of fun to the world in a time where it was most desperately needed.
After a time she decided to spread her wings and move back to Kansas City where she was able to meet more of her sacred sisters and continue to be a beacon of positivity and compassion to her new community.
On a final note: continue to be strong, continue to be compassionate, continue to reach for the Topp, and never be afraid of no ghosts.
